CHOOSING YOUR WORKOUT

Each of our workouts is open to all. With that being said, our coaches have worked to create opportunities for people of all fitness levels to find the right fit for them. As a general guideline, we will colour code our workouts to indicate the basis of the workouts. You should note that coaches will always scale exercises up or down if you end up in the wrong workout.

HOW TO JOIN?

SPORT SCIENCE GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

Our HW Fit classes work on a drop in or a membership basis. You are welcome to pay as you go or invest in a membership to get the most bang for your buck. In both cases, you don't need to pay ahead of time. The front desk will happily help you through that after your first workout.

We love our Jane App for all of our booking and payments needs. This app is awesome because it keeps everything in the same place. At the same time, it can be tricky for new users because there are a lot of options.

  • Are HW FIT workouts covered by my benefits?
    Hard no! While physios and other medical practitioners have collaborated on the design of the programs, these are fitness training programs and will not be billed under physiotherapy (under any circumstance).
  • Do I have to be an athlete to workout with Sport Science?
    Most definitely, no! The resources available to pro athletes are amazing tools to help the rest of us make amazing gains in our rehab and fitness. While we do work with some amazing athletes, our mission is to help all people experience enhanced rehab and performance outcomes.
  • Why the affiliation with HW Physio?
    Our medical practitioners are vital to the design and delivery of our fitness programs. During our interdisciplinary team meetings our practitioners get a chance to review program and collaborate with strength coaches to ensure that the movements and progressions and designed in a way that will help people avoid injuries both in training and in their active lifestyles.
  • Can I sign up to any level of class or do I need to "graduate" to more intense classes?
    The class labels are designed to help people feel confident heading into their workout. There will be plans in each workout to scale the movements up and back as the coach sees fit. This will help accommodate people who are might be at a different level but still want to check out that class.
  • Is Sport Science a Gym with a Physio in it or a Physio Clinic with a Gym?
    Glad you asked. It is really important to us that people understand that neither of these descriptions accurately describe our group. In both cases, those descriptions drastically understate what we do. We are a single organizational unit that strives to deliver top quality rehabilitation and performance services across the full spectrum of health. We believe that we need the expertise of a qualified strength coach to adequately complete our physio rehab programs. Likewise, we feel we benefit from the input of high level physios to properly ensure clients can safely complete their workout programs. In a sense, we are highly engaged in the strengths and limitations of each discipline. Rather than present a surface level knowledge and experience to our clients, we rely on each other to ensure excellence at every level.

The very core of what we do is leverage professional sport and medical resources to support the Ottawa community in becoming increasingly active, healthy and vibrant. It is our mission to help our clients get past personal boundaries and find new levels of fitness, performance and longevity. HW Fit is our most recent program that is designed to provide our clients with an opportunity to develop increased strength and fitness in a high energy, fun filled environment. In small groups of 8-12, you will receive a high level of personal attention and coaching during each session. Our programs will be designed so that each movement can be executed safe and effectively for maximum results. We hope you enjoy the workouts. Can't wait to see you in the gym.

When our Strength and Conditioning coaches aren't working with elite athletes and complex rehab patients they love to turn up the music, hang out with friends and get a good sweat on. HW FIT is their outlet for fun fitness.
