HEALTHY AGING EDUCATION SERIES

Week 1
Strength Testing - Why do we test? 
- A brief overview of how Sport Science Testing can help you monitor, track and prioritize different aspects of your fitness. 
- We will also highlight why we are testing each element and why it is important to active living. 

Week 3
The Science of Aging
- An overview of the physical changes we experience as we age, and tools to help you make the best of these changes

Week 5
Getting a Good Night's Sleep
Changes with sleep occur as we age, this week will be a brief overview on how to adjust your sleeping schedule to maximize its impact on your physical and mental health

Week 7
Mental Health and Social Well Being
- As we age, it is not uncommon to experience an increased amount of social isolation
- This week, we will highlight the importance that social well-being has on mental health, and provide you with tools to maximize this area of your life

Week 9
The Chronic Pain Problem
- Chronic pain can be debilitating to live with. However, one’s pain experience is multifactorial, and there are factors contributing to pain that we can control – this week, we will teach you about these factors. This includes how to live with pain, how to move with pain, and how to change some aspects of lifestyle that can be contributing to pain

Week 11
Strength Re-Testing - How did you do? 
- Today is an exciting day! We get to objectively look at your progress and the gains you have made throughout the program with re-testing. 

Week 2
Goal Setting and Guidelines for Active Living
- There are specific guidelines recommended for individual’s physical activity levels that will help optimize your fitness
- Overview of the importance of goal setting, and how to create specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based 

Week 4
Healthy Senior Diets and Osteoporosis
- This week we dive into osteoporosis, a bone disease that can develop when the quality of bone changes in your body
- We will provide you with information about the disease, what you can include in your diet, and how to change what we can to delay or decrease the chance of living with the disease

Week 6
Recap, Summary and Check-In 
- A time for us to check in with how you’re feeling halfway through the program. We will encourage any feedback with open arms, and help optimize the last half of your experience in this program
- We will also be happy to answer any questions, concerns, or share any victories you may have experienced up to this point

Week 8
Osteoarthritis
- Osteoarthritis is a common condition that we experience as we age that causes a decrease in the cushioning between two bones. Today we will give you tips and tricks to help offload the osteoarthritic joint – thereby helping in pain reduction and reducing the effects of OA

Week 10
Adherence and Health Monitoring 
- As our program is coming to an end, we will speak about the value of adhering to an active lifestyle. We will present a guide to early warning signs for trouble when exercising on your own. 

Week 12
Reflection + Celebration
- This week we will provide you with a HUGE congratulations for completing the program. We will allow time for reflection about the past 12 weeks, and we will encourage any feedback you have for us.
- A special treat will also be provided – we are so proud of you for completing this 12 week journey with us.

The very core of what we do is leverage professional sport and medical resources to support the Ottawa community in becoming increasingly active, healthy and vibrant. It is our mission to help our clients get past personal boundaries and find new levels of fitness, performance and longevity. HW Fit is our most recent program that is designed to provide our clients with an opportunity to develop increased strength and fitness in a high energy, fun filled environment. In small groups of 8-12, you will receive a high level of personal attention and coaching during each session. Our programs will be designed so that each movement can be executed safe and effectively for maximum results. We hope you enjoy the workouts. Can't wait to see you in the gym.

When our Strength and Conditioning coaches aren't working with elite athletes and complex rehab patients they love to turn up the music, hang out with friends and get a good sweat on. HW FIT is their outlet for fun fitness.

Because our coaches are educated and trained for the worlds of rehabilitative care and high performance athletics, their attention to detail in exercise programming is second to none. They understand exactly how the body responds to exercise and they know how to build a workout that leaves you feeling great and challenged.

Located very close to Ikea, our central facility is second to none in the city. Our space and equipment is are both carefully designed to offer the most functionality and versatility to our class sessions. This allows us to incorporate a fun and safe variety of movements into every workout block.
